Damp Proofing, Stroud & Gloucestershire
Damp proofing for standard-construction homes across Stroud, Gloucester and the Cotswolds. Survey-led diagnosis, BBA-certificated damp-proof courses and tanking, backed by a ten-year insurance-backed guarantee.
Damp Proofing for Standard Construction
Most homes built after about 1919 have a cavity wall and an original damp-proof course. When damp appears in a building like that, it is usually because something has failed or been bridged — and it can be put right with conventional damp proofing: a new damp-proof course, tanking below ground, or treatment for the timber that has suffered as a result.
We have been doing this work across Gloucestershire for over 35 years. The materials and methods we use are BBA-certificated, and completed work carries a ten-year insurance-backed guarantee — so the cover survives even if we do not.
Is this the right page for your property?
If your home is standard cavity-wall construction, you are in the right place. If it is solid-wall, pre-1919 or listed, a chemical damp-proof course is usually the wrong answer and can make things worse — see damp in period and listed properties for the breathable approach those buildings need.

We start with a survey, not a quote
The damp proofing trade has a poor reputation for a reason: too many firms diagnose from the doorstep and sell the same treatment to everyone. We do not work that way.
A survey establishes what is actually happening — where the moisture is coming from, whether the existing damp-proof course has failed or simply been bridged by a raised path or a flowerbed, and whether the problem is damp at all rather than condensation. Often the fix is drainage, ventilation or ground levels, and costs a fraction of a chemical treatment. We will tell you when that is the case.
Book a damp survey or read about how each type of damp is diagnosed.
What we do
Damp-proof courses Where an original DPC has failed, a replacement course is injected into the mortar bed to re-form the barrier. BBA-certificated materials throughout.

Basement and cellar tanking Below-ground rooms need a different approach: a tanking system or cavity drain membrane that manages water rather than trying to resist it, so the space can be used and stay dry.
Condensation and ventilation A large share of what gets reported as rising damp is condensation. It is cheaper to fix and the fix lasts, provided the cause is correctly identified.
Timber treatment Wet rot, dry rot and woodworm are usually consequences of a damp problem rather than the problem itself. We treat the timber and deal with the moisture that caused it.
Replastering after treatment Treated walls need replastering to a specification that suits the wall. On a modern property that is a conventional render and skim; on an older building it is lime.
